Window Coverings Guide
PVC Vertical Blinds:
The Complete Buyer’s Guide
Rigid PVC vertical blinds are the most practical, lowest-maintenance window covering available for large windows and sliding glass doors — moisture-proof, wipe-clean slats, excellent light control, and a sizing range up to 12 feet wide. Maxxmar PVC Verticals supplied and installed by ECO Glass Windows And Doors, authorized Maxxmar dealer serving the Greater Toronto Area.
What Are PVC Vertical Blinds?
PVC vertical blinds — also called rigid vertical blinds or plastic vertical blinds — are window coverings built from stiff, opaque slats that hang vertically from a track-mounted headrail. The slats rotate on a wand control to tilt open or closed, adjusting how much light enters the room and how much privacy the window provides. When fully open, the slats stack to one end of the track — or split from the centre to both ends — leaving the window or door entirely unobstructed.
The defining characteristic is the material: rigid PVC. Unlike fabric vertical alternatives such as Eleganza Sheer or Dream Shade, PVC vertical blind slats are hard plastic — opaque, non-absorbent, dimensionally stable. They do not absorb moisture, do not fade from UV exposure, do not warp from heat, and do not require any care beyond occasional wiping. For a window covering expected to perform in a high-humidity environment, a frequently used doorway, or a room where low maintenance is non-negotiable, rigid PVC vertical blinds deliver in ways that softer materials cannot.
Maxxmar PVC Verticals are 100% made in Canada with a Lifetime Limited Warranty. ECO Glass Windows And Doors supplies and installs them throughout the Greater Toronto Area.

Why Rigid PVC — Not Fabric
The case for rigid PVC vertical blinds is built on four material properties that no fabric covering can match: moisture resistance, UV resistance, wipeable maintenance, and dimensional stability.
Moisture Resistant
Rigid PVC slats do not absorb water. Condensation from a sliding glass door, steam from a kitchen or bathroom, spills from children — none of it penetrates the slat or causes swelling, mildew, or fabric distortion. This makes PVC vertical blinds uniquely suited to the rooms in the home where moisture is most persistent.
UV Resistant & Won’t Fade
The PVC material resists UV degradation — it holds its colour and surface finish even on sun-facing windows that would bleach a fabric blind within a season or two. White PVC vertical blinds stay white; dark colours stay consistent. The UV resistance is a function of the material itself, not a coating that degrades over time.
Wipeable — Low Maintenance
The smooth surface of PVC vertical blind slats is the easiest window covering surface to clean in existence. Dust with a cloth, wipe with a damp sponge if needed. No dry cleaning, no delicate fabric care, no risk of water damage. In a kitchen where grease and cooking vapors drift to every surface, wipeable vertical blinds are a significant practical advantage over every fabric alternative.
Dimensionally Stable
Rigid PVC slats hold their shape. They do not curl, sag, bow, or develop wrinkles from humidity cycles the way fabric blinds can. Each slat hangs straight and returns to the same position after tilting. Over years of daily use in a frequently accessed patio door opening, this dimensional stability translates to a covering that still functions and looks the same way it did on installation day.
Light Control & Privacy
Rigid PVC slats are fully opaque — they transmit no light through the material itself. When the slats are tilted to the closed position and are overlapping, they significantly reduce light entering the room. For most living applications, closed PVC vertical blinds provide the level of privacy and light reduction needed for daytime use in a living room, bedroom, or home office.
In the tilted-open position, the slats angle to allow light in from the side while still maintaining some privacy from direct viewing angles. This is the practical everyday position for most installations — the room is lit, views in from outside are limited to oblique angles, and the covering is in place rather than raised completely out of the way.
While rigid PVC slats are opaque, some light will enter at the edges and through gaps between slats when the blind is in the closed position. PVC vertical blinds are not a blackout solution — they provide strong light reduction, not full light elimination. For complete blackout performance (a home theatre, a nursery, a shift worker’s bedroom), a blackout roller shade is the recommended product. PVC vertical blinds can coexist on the same window with a blackout roller shade if both covering types are desired.
Wand Control Operation
Maxxmar PVC vertical blinds operate with a wand control — a rigid wand that rotates the slats and draws the blind open or closed by hand. The wand control is the standard for PVC vertical blinds because it suits the rigid slat format well: precise, direct, no cords required. The cordless wand control eliminates cord hazards entirely, making PVC vertical blinds a child-safe and pet-safe window covering by default.
PVC Vertical Blind Colours & Textures
Maxxmar PVC vertical blinds are available in a broad range of colours and surface finishes — smooth, textured, and embossed — to work with any interior palette. The range covers neutral whites and greys that suit contemporary and transitional interiors, wood-look tones for a warmer residential feel, and accent colours for rooms where the covering is meant to be a design element rather than a background detail.

White PVC vertical blinds remain the most frequently specified option — they work in virtually any room, reflect light rather than absorbing it, and present a clean baseline that does not visually compete with furniture or paint colour. Grey PVC vertical blinds are the contemporary alternative, particularly popular in open-plan living areas with a modern or industrial design direction. The textured and embossed finishes add subtle visual interest to what would otherwise be a flat plastic surface — useful in formal spaces where the covering is more visible.
Valance Options
Maxxmar PVC vertical blinds are available with two headrail valance options that dress the track and mounting hardware at the top of the window.
Heavy-Duty & Detailed
Features a heavy-duty dust cover with a wrap-around return louver insert for a finished look from both inside and outside. Rounded corners with caps complete the profile. The Ultra Valance is the choice when the top of the blind will be viewed from multiple angles and the installation needs to look finished from every direction.
Tailored & Refined
A cleaner, more architectural profile for interiors where a minimal presentation is preferred. The Executive Valance carries a surcharge and suits contemporary or transitional rooms where the covering is meant to read as a considered design choice rather than a utility installation.
Best Rooms for PVC Vertical Blinds
Bathrooms
Moisture resistance makes rigid PVC vertical blinds the logical choice for bathroom windows. Fabric blinds in bathrooms accumulate humidity and eventually mildew. PVC does not.
Kitchens
Wipeable vertical blinds handle cooking grease and steam that would compromise fabric blinds within months. Wipe down with a damp cloth — done.
Sliding Patio Doors
The vertical slat format aligns with the horizontal operation of sliding doors. PVC vertical blinds for sliding doors stack cleanly, clear the door path, and tolerate high daily traffic without wear.
Home Offices
Precise tilt control reduces screen glare from large windows without eliminating daylight entirely. Easy to adjust as sun angle changes through the day.
Living Rooms
Wide window and door openings are the natural format for PVC vertical blinds — up to 144 inches wide in a single system. White or grey PVC vertical blinds for windows provide a neutral, practical baseline covering.
Rentals & High-Use Spaces
Durable, long-lasting, low maintenance, and affordable — rigid PVC vertical blinds are well-suited to rental properties, basement suites, and any space where a covering needs to perform reliably without ongoing care.

One-way draw PVC vertical blinds require stacking space at the side where the slats collect when open. A 144-inch wide blind with 46 slats uses approximately 21¾ inches of stacking space at the stack end. For openings where stacking space is limited on one side, a split draw configuration distributes the stack equally to both ends. ECO Glass Windows And Doors specifies the right draw direction and stack allocation for your opening during the in-home consultation.
PVC Vertical Blinds vs. Sheer Fabric Vertical Blinds
Maxxmar offers three vertical blind products: PVC Verticals, Eleganza Sheer, and Dream Shade. The choice comes down to priorities.
Choose PVC Vertical Blinds When
Moisture resistance, low maintenance, and durability are the priorities. The room is a kitchen, bathroom, or high-traffic area. Budget is a consideration. The window needs reliable, long-lasting light and privacy control without any ongoing care commitment.
Consider Fabric Verticals When
The aesthetic of soft fabric and a drapery-like silhouette is the priority for a formal living or dining room. The Dream Shade walk-through feature is needed for a patio door with constant foot traffic. The Opera Eleganza dual-fabric configuration is the right light control solution.
