Wood & Faux Wood Blinds:
The Complete Buyer’s Guide
Two-inch wooden venetian blinds — real hardwood stains or moisture-resistant faux wood — with cordless operation, decorative ladder tapes, and motorization for smart home integration. Maxxmar Wood & Faux Wood Blinds supplied and installed by ECO Glass Windows And Doors, authorized Maxxmar dealer serving the GTA.
What Are Wood & Faux Wood Blinds?
Wood and faux wood blinds are horizontal window blinds made from 2-inch slats — either genuine hardwood or a moisture-resistant composite material engineered to look like wood. The slats tilt on a lift cord or wand to control the angle of incoming light, and raise fully on the lift system to stack at the top of the window when a clear view is wanted. The coordinating decorative valance is included in the price.
They are the classic residential window blind — the wooden venetian blind that has been a design constant in North American homes for generations. What Maxxmar brings to this category is the precision of custom sizing, a broad range of real wood stains and faux wood colours, the option of decorative cloth ladder tapes, cordless and motorized operation, and the quality of a Canadian-made product backed by a Lifetime Limited Warranty.
ECO Glass Windows And Doors supplies and installs the complete Maxxmar 2-inch Wood and Faux Wood Blind collection across the Greater Toronto Area.

Real Wood vs. Faux Wood — Which Is Right for You?
The choice between real wood and faux wood comes down to two factors: where the blind is installed, and what the design priorities are. Both use the same 2-inch slat format, both support cordless and motorized operation, and both accept decorative cloth ladder tapes. The material difference defines their performance envelope.
Authentic Grain, Lighter Weight
Genuine hardwood slats available in natural stains that reveal actual wood grain — an authenticity that composite materials approximate but cannot fully replicate. Real wood is lighter per slat, making it the better choice for very wide windows where faux wood slat weight can strain the lift mechanism over time. Not recommended for humid environments. Best in dry rooms: living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, home offices.
Moisture Resistant, Wider Colour Range
Composite or PVC construction that resists moisture, humidity, warping, and UV fading. The correct choice for kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and any window near a source of persistent moisture. Faux wood blinds are available in a wider range of colours — including whites, greys, and contemporary tones — beyond the stain palette available in real wood. Heavier per slat than real wood at very wide widths.
If the window is in a kitchen, bathroom, or any space with regular humidity — choose faux wood. For every other room in the house, either material works, and the decision comes down to whether you want authentic wood grain or a wider colour palette. Both are excellent blinds. Neither is a compromise.
Maxxmar Faux Wood Blinds — Details
Maxxmar faux wood blinds are built from a composite material that resists the conditions that degrade real wood blinds: moisture, humidity cycles, and prolonged UV exposure. The slat surface holds its colour and finish over time without the yellowing or warping that affects both real wood and lower-quality PVC alternatives.
Fake wood blinds are available in a comprehensive colour selection that includes crisp whites and warm off-whites, neutral greys, and wood-toned stains — giving designers and homeowners the ability to match any interior palette. White wooden blinds for windows remain the most frequently specified option in Canadian homes; they reflect light, suit any room colour, and present a clean neutral backdrop that doesn’t compete visually with furniture or wall treatments.

Real Wood Stain & Paint Colours
Maxxmar 2-inch real wood blinds are available in both paint and stain finishes — stains allow the natural wood grain to show through; paints provide a solid opaque colour. The full colour range covers light neutrals through deep dark tones, giving designers the ability to specify the exact visual weight and warmth the room calls for.
The stain range runs from Snow and Cloud (bright whites) through natural light tones (Maple, Oak, Natural) into warm mid-tones (Chestnut, Caramel, Walnut) and deep finishes (Mahogany, Espresso, Ebony/Black). Polar provides a clean cool white for contemporary interiors. Hardwood venetian blinds in Walnut or Espresso finish work particularly well in kitchens and dining rooms where warmer, richer tones suit the natural material palette of the space.
Decorative Cloth Ladder Tapes
One of the most distinctive customization options for wood and faux wood blinds is the decorative cloth ladder tape. Standard wood blinds use a cord ladder — thin cords that run vertically down the blind, connecting each slat at the front and back. Decorative tapes replace these cords with a fabric tape, typically 1½ to 2 inches wide, that runs vertically down the entire blind in a contrasting or complementary colour.
The tapes do two things simultaneously: they introduce a second colour or texture to the blind, and they cover the lift cord holes punched through each slat — the small openings that allow light to pass through even when the slats are fully closed. Tapes therefore add a design element and improve light blocking at the same time. A 15% surcharge applies to the blind price when decorative tapes are selected.
Cordless, Motorized & Smart Home
Cordless Operation
Cordless wood and faux wood blinds operate with a wand for tilting the slats and a cordless lift for raising and lowering. No hanging cords means no cord hazard for children and pets, and a cleaner visual presentation. Cordless is the standard specification for family homes.
Motorized
Motorized wood and faux wood blinds add automated raise, lower, and tilt via remote control. The motorization surcharge is added to the cordless wand tilt base price. Both single blinds and 2-on-1 configurations support motorization.
Smart Home Integration
Motorized Maxxmar wood blinds can be integrated with smart home systems for remote control via smartphone app or voice command (Amazon Alexa, Google Home). Program schedules, scenes, and automation routines — the blind raises with your morning alarm and closes at sunset.
2-on-1 & 3-on-1
Multiple blinds can be mounted on a single shared headrail — two panels (2-on-1) or three panels (3-on-1) — for wide windows or windows with centre mullions. Each panel operates independently while sharing one valance for a unified appearance. Both configurations support motorization.

Inner cords, cording, and shroud on all Maxxmar wood and faux wood blinds are always white/ivory regardless of the slat colour chosen. DecoraSafe clutch is white only. If cord colour visibility is a concern for a dark-stained blind, decorative cloth tapes are the solution — they cover the cords entirely.
Where Wood & Faux Wood Blinds Work Best
Wooden venetian blinds work in virtually every room in the house — the question is whether the room’s moisture level calls for real wood or faux wood, not whether wood blinds suit the space.
Living Room & Dining Room
Real wood or faux wood both work. A Walnut or Espresso stain adds warmth to rooms with hardwood floors and wood furniture. White or Polar wood blinds suit contemporary interiors with light walls and minimal styling.
Bedroom
Faux wood or real wood depending on the room’s moisture level. Blackout performance is limited with standard blinds — decorative tapes help by covering cord holes. For a bedroom requiring complete blackout, pair wooden blinds with a blackout roller shade.
Kitchen & Bathroom
Faux wood only. Moisture resistance is non-negotiable in these rooms. White faux wood blinds are the most popular kitchen specification — they complement cabinetry, are easy to wipe clean, and tolerate cooking vapors without degrading.
Home Office
Faux wood or real wood. Precise tilt control manages screen glare from side windows without raising the blind entirely. Motorized wood blinds integrate with smart home systems for programmatic glare management through the workday.
