LoE 366: Strong Sun Control with a Neutral, Clear View
LoE 366 is the go-to LoE for hot exposures and afternoon glare. Its triple-layer coating rejects a big share of the sun’s heat while keeping views neutral and clear. In a dual-pane unit with argon fill, you’ll feel steadier summer comfort without dimming your rooms.
At a glance: key performance (dual-pane argon)
Visible light
About 63% VT keeps interiors bright with a neutral look.
Solar control
SHGC ≈ 0.27 curbs summer heat gain on south/west glass.
Insulation
U-factor ≈ 0.23 (center-of-glass) with argon to hold evening heat indoors.
UV filtering
~95% of UV blocked (≈5% UV transmission) to help reduce fading.
Where LoE 366 fits best
Large west and south windows that overheat in summer feel noticeably calmer, especially in open living areas and kitchens.
Rooms with afternoon glare get more usable daylight hours without blinds down all day.
Wide patio doors and tall glass walls enjoy solar control while keeping a clean, neutral view.
How it keeps heat out—without a dark tint
The coating is a microscopically thin, triple-layer stack that reflects a big portion of the sun’s infrared heat while letting most visible light pass. Set on the inside of the outer pane (the “#2 surface”), it trims solar gain in summer and reflects room heat back inside during winter nights. Fill the unit with argon gas and you add another layer of resistance to heat flow—more comfort, same clear view.
Good to know
Neutral colour
Designed to look clear and modern—no heavy bronze or grey cast—so it pairs well with today’s interiors.
Safety glazing
Available tempered or laminated for doors, bathrooms, and other safety-rated locations.
ENERGY STAR® 7.0
Can be used to meet criteria in all four climate zones; in the Northern zone it’s commonly combined with triple-pane glass.
Sizing & fabrication
Offered in common thicknesses with large maximum sizes, plus custom shapes to match your project.
LoE-366 vs other LoE choices
Brighter, higher winter solar gain for south glass where cold-season warmth is the goal.
Balanced, all-season choice—good summer control with excellent clarity on mixed orientations.
Stronger solar control for hot exposures and afternoon glare; neutral view, great for large openings.
Room-side layer used with other LoE coatings to lower U-factors further without dimming views.
Helpful pairings & upgrades
Argon fill
The inert gas between panes slows heat flow and boosts comfort in both summer and winter.
Warm-edge spacers
Modern spacer tech reduces edge heat loss and helps limit perimeter condensation.
When to choose something else
If you want to capture more winter sun on south-facing glass, LoE-180 is the better match. If you need a clear, all-rounder for mixed directions, LoE-272 is a safe default. For an interior comfort boost, consider pairing with LoE-i89.
